Excellent results in national tests

The rounded curriculum, established in the Infant years, is further extended and enriched in the Junior years, through increased specialist teaching in Science, P.E. French and Music

Educational visits, field trips and competitive sports become an important part of the holistic education we provide.  There are regular music and drama productions and arts events within the Preparatory School. We have specialist art and music rooms and access to networked computers in all the classrooms as well as a small ICT suite. Science is taught by specialist teachers in a laboratory in the College. French is taught from Year 3 upwards and Food Technology is introduced from Year 5. Homework is set which is appropriate to the age and ability of the child. It reinforces concepts which have been taught and allows opportunity for in depth research of topics beyond the classroom.

Excellent results in national tests are a by-product of the whole experience we provide for our pupils. Many of our pupils move on to St Joseph’s College. Each year a number of pupils are successful in the Kendrick entrance exam and whatever the choice of secondary school we are confident that they have received an excellent preparation.

The transition from St Joseph’s College Preparatory School to St Joseph’s College is managed sensitively for each pupil. Each year, St Joseph's College invites pupils in Year 5 from both St Joseph’s College Preparatory School and other schools in the area to visit the College for an educational and fun day to gain an insight into life in the College.  The next Year 5 Day will be held on Friday 28th June 2013.  During Year 6 each child is given the opportunity to spend a day at the College and is assigned a Year 7 pupil who will look after them for the day and answer any questions.  The aim of this process is to ensure that every pupil transferring into the College does so with confidence.
